Kahuna Film is an audiovisual production company active between Milan, Florence and Rome.
Our reality operates mainly in the world of advertising and cinema.
By often combining the two formats, the company puts itself at the service of Italian and international brands in the creation of corporate films and advertising campaigns.
Our works have won the most important awards in the sector, including the Nastro d'Argento for the best short film comedy, the closing of the Critics' Week at the Venice International Film Festival, the Globo d'Oro, first prizes at the Cortinametraggio, Rome Creative Contest, Figari Film Festival, Palermo Comic Convention, Rome Web Fest, Pasinetti in Venice and many others.
WHY "KAHUNA"?
The Hawaiian term kahuna originally referred to the title to designate a man of spiritual knowledge, an expert, a teacher, a shaman of the Polynesian Huna culture.
The natives of Hawaii did not originally have any form of written language. Knowledge was passed through periods of apprenticeship, where a person lived and worked closely with the master, called Kahuna, in the area of knowledge that one wanted to learn. The word is still used in this context by the natives and currently Huna and Kahuna are terms that are slowly becoming known around the world thanks to the spread of research by Max Freedom Long and Serge Kahili King.
The use of the term referring to surfing can be traced back to the film Gidget (1959), in which the Big Kahuna, played by Cliff Robertson, was the leader of a group of surfers. The word has since become very common in other films of the genre such as Beach Blanket Bingo, where the Big Kahuna was the best surfer on the beach. Nowadays this terminology is in common use in the world of surfing.
The term has been taken up in various fictional works and in marketing:
* "Big Kahuna" refers to a fish of considerable size. In this sense the term is encountered in the film The Big Kahuna by John Swanbeck.
* "The Big Kahuna Burger" is the invented name of a fast food restaurant in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction and re-mentioned in Grindhouse - Death Proof and in From Dusk Till Dawn.
* Kahuna is a board game for two, popular in German-speaking countries.
* Kahuna is the term that designates in the Pokémon Sun and Moon games the leaders of each of the islands in which the game is set and the player's ultimate challenge.
* In Vineland (1990), a novel by US writer Thomas Pynchon, "Kahuna Airlines" is the name of a one-way airline to Hawaii.
